That's actually our friend's cat, Sammy. Adorable, isn't she? But to be fair, with the cons we brought in with dogs earlier, we're going to con cats as well.
Sorta.
Okay, not really, for we don't exactly know how to gamble with fat cats nor do we have cheezburgers to chip in (if you get all those references nya~).
Well, cats bring similar problems along with dogs though some may argue that they can be even more problematic with how they catch birds and can pass T. gondii to both humans and sea otters. Of course, that shouldn't discourage anyone though. Cats are great friends and pets and felines to be around so let's bring in the tips of how to include family cats into the family gardens as well~

First off, many dog-friendly things mentioned in the previous post applies to this post as well -- like the fences and paved roads and cat-resistant plants. And there are quite a lot of plants that cats hate -- most of them having blue foliage (like lavender and rue) or thorny areas. Or you can do the opposite and attract cats to a specific area with sand for their litter with beloved plants like catnip and valerian.
Since cats hate water more than dogs, you can attach motion sensors to sprinklers and hoses to spray cats from plants of desire as well as input high frequency sound alarms (since cats actually do have better hearing senses than dogs). Strong smells like citrus and cayenne pepper also repel cats.
Sad thing is there isn't really much you can do for the songbird population as cats are instinctual hunters that do go for the kill. Hundreds of thousands of songbirds are estimated to be killed annually in the United States alone. Training doesn't really do much for ancestral urges nor does watching these independent beasts all day long. Still, cats are great companions to have along and if you do like your birds, then the best solutions are probably to cat-proof your bird baths and feeders as well as plant hated plants near the trees where birds roost.
Gardens can be friendly for everyone, everything.
