As if the sign wasn't warning enough...
Well, yes, peeps, this is the beginning of our fight against industrial chemicals and the big clamor for bio-awesome things!
Please note that this is actually pretty serious and necessary to know when running a good sustainable home that's safe for everyone within. Because unfortunately, there are many things that are harmful around us. And they are one of the reasons why we need our beloved gardens that can filter the air and purify our soil, giving us the O2 we need with our CO2.

Toxins are, according to our beloved holy bible of Withgott and Brennan, poisonous substances that have adverse effects on humans and other organisms. Conversely to popular thought, however, toxicants may actually pose no health risk at all in minute enough quantities. Rather, it's the dose that makes the poison; as the saying always goes.
And contrary to many popular thoughts, there are quite a lot of toxins in our houses here in the US. Just think for a while. Think, think, and think...
Just how many chemicals do you think are in your house?
Just... how many of them are toxic?
EPA says 1,000. No, not even. The EPA -- the America's very own Environmental Protection Agency -- says that the average American home contains more than 1,000 different chemicals. Over 150 of them are linked to cancer, allergies, birth defects, and psychological abnormalities.
This won't end there though. Not on this sad note for this is a website on fun family gardens! Nothing will ever end if we got a say in it and we say we do. Because as we said in our earlier post and as we say now, we can make a difference (in all its cheesiness, we really can).
Garden building is one of them. Having a garden allows you to eat locally and fresh food that you know what's been in. You know the fertilizers you used. You know the pesticides that you didn't spray (and why you shouldn't spray them will come in a later post). You know the smiles and love that went in nurturing those foods you eat. This is garden goodness right there.
That's not all building gardens can give you to help improve your and your family's health. Gardens can also increase the number of plants within your vicinity that will purify the water, soil, and air by removing possibly toxic pollutants and treating waste. As said in the benefits section, there's a reason why people stop to smell the roses :)
We'll end it at that note for now, but we'll be sure to post more things about toxins so out they go and bio-replacements come in. It'll be fun. That's what this website -- that's what the whole premise that APES builds upon is: fun with nature.
