Not much to talk about today, I admit, but here's the first of our Volunteering 101 sessions~!
To get us all reacquainted with the idea of why we're even talking about volunteering right now, we'd like to first start off with why volunteering is so important to us APES troopers.
Yes, it's not only about saving the environment or saving the fishes or saving nature... It's also about saving our poor grades!!!
...Hello? Is anyone still there? We weren't being funny or selfish or anything there... Hello? Cough. Cough. Anyways, our grades are pretty important too and beware (to any eight graders or freshies or sophmores or even -- especially -- juniors out there); APES forces students to volunteer. It's a very solemn event where we're forced to go outside on those beautiful sand beaches and hear those soothingly lulling waves and realize that we're really there to pick up trash on that oh so beautiful day.
Well. All in an A. What we all do for an A...
So back to our topic for the day, this is the first volunteering opportunity we'll chat about regarding the environment that is available to most across the sweet nation of the United States: Heal the Bay.
Heal the Bay is a great organization that protects water ecosystems which are (but not limited to) oceans, beaches, estuaries, rivers, watersheds, and lakes since 1985. Members dedicate themselves to the motto "When we heal the Earth, we heal ourselves" which to every APES student and environmentalist isn't a bad motto at all.
Which is why we'll dedicate our first glimpse into volunteering into this amazing organization that promotes recreation and seafood.

Okay, so maybe more than a glimpse, but really an actual go there and do something because it was Coastal Cleanup Day, but it wasn't a bad trip at all. Beautiful, isn't it? That there, our friends, is exactly why we must protect our surroundings even if it's just to pick up a cigarette butt or other piece of trash off the beach once a day -- or even just once in a lifetime like it may be for us from APES who are only doing this for just a grade.
But hey, baby steps in the sand all still count towards the outcome, right? Every actions makes a difference and it's these little people, these little seemingly insignificant actions that changes things.
So don't forget. If you ever need to volunteer or just want to for the heck of it, Heal the Bay. There's a Nothin' But Sand monthly beach cleanup every month and many other opportunities to make that little difference.
